Last week, Rhyme et reason didn’t want to bombard you with New York Fashion Week (Fall Winter 2012) updates. There were hundreds of runway shows and presentations and serious fashion journalists covering every moment. Now that it’s on to London over, we’ve decided to give you the good, the bad and the ugly—as we see it.

Let’s start with the good!

Alexander Wang

If you’re into minimalism (we’re not) it doesn’t get better than it-designer Alexander Wang. His showing for Fall/Winter included lots of leather, knits, knee high boots and full length evening gloves. Lots of monochrome! We were into Alexander Wang’s diverse lineup of models—truely, an A.Wang girl can be any girl—albeit a cold one…

Anna Sui

Maximalism!!!!! Anna Sui’s signature hippy-dippy aesthetic took a trip back in time to 60’s mod. We’re impressed. A lot of the collection looked Pucci-inspired but the monochromatic palette was singularly Sui.

Elizabeth and James

I’m a vegetarian but I’m not mad at this collection’s gratuitous use of fur. Mary Kate and Ashley Olsen’s more affordable offering was impeccably tailored and styled just right. The Elizabeth and James girl will be hard to miss next Fall in black and white staples with nude, navy, olive green and cranberry accents.

J.Crew

J.Crew’s Creative Director, Jenna Lyons has done it again. Her FW 2012 collection has mastered mix-and-matching. There are so many prints—chevron, spots, python, stripes, fair isle, and leopard—and colors in every shade of sherbet. Somehow they all work together. Well done!

Ralph Lauren

It wouldn’t be New York Fashion Week without Mr. Lauren. Per usual he does not disappoint, if you’re into indulging your inner equestrian. (I am, for sure.) In this go ‘round I have to say: Annie Hall, eat your heart out. We love the leopard coat and the tartan suit complete with tophat. How great does Model Joan Smalls look here?!

Victoria Beckham

Victoria Beckham’s latest collection is a study in proper fit. True, the bulk of her frocks are bod-con but that doesn’t mean they aren’t for every woman. They aren’t cut much above the knee and most have sleeves! Mrs. Beckham added some brilliant coats and buttery looking leather handbags. Not bad for a former Spice Girl!
