Is there something in the water? (Not a jab at Mexico’s water quality—I seriously love that country more than my own.) Who ISN’T designing a shoe line these days?
First Rachel Bilson for ShoeMint, then Cheryl Cole for StylistPick and now Anahí for Aviesta! It’s beyond strange (not really—totally makes sense) that all of my favorite pint-sized brunettes (and occasional blondes) have decided to launch an afforably-priced online shoe retailer at the same time, right?
Anahí is a little late to the party but she’s no less welcome! The Mexican singer/actress is the face of Aviesta— a brand that will ship you your pick of each month’s most stylish shoes for just MX $399 (right around US $45). You just have to take a quiz and enter your payment information to get started. As they say, “Nosotros creemos que el estilo no tiene fronteras [We believe style doesn’t have borders]” Does that mean you can get them shipped to the U.S.?
Watch Anahí explain how Aviesta works:
Check out some of my favorite shoes—can’t tell if they were designed by Anahí or Aviesta but they’re muy heavys.
Orange is supposed to be big pa’ la primavera, no?
I’ll be posting more about Aviesta and Anahí in the coming weeks!

This year we’ve experimented with a few posts in Spanish. Thanks for giving us the space to express ourselves as we wish. Sometimes English isn’t enough. Well then, I leave you 11 of my favorites of the most played (latin pop) songs of 2011—the year of the unexpected collaboration. There are weird rhythms and unforgetable choruses. Enjoy!
11) “On The Floor (Featuring Pitbull)”- Jennifer Lopez
// In 2011 Jennifer Lopez divorced Marc Anthony and got a huge hit with another man: that Pitbull guy. I prefer the song in Spanish as the lyrics are better. Oh well. J.lo!
10) “Ciervos”— Astro
// Don’t say that I don’t love South American pop! Of course I do. I love the group Astro. This Chilean band has an impressive sound that is very imaginative.
Les va a encantarla, no importa si no entiendan el portugués // The year’s coolest cover. The Banda Uó (from Brazil) deserve everything for transforming “Last Night” by The Strokes into something similar (“Rosa”) but even more creative. You guys are going to love it, even if you don’t understand Portuguese.
GRX! // The ex-RBD give us the gayest song of all time. THX!
// The tenderest song of the year with the best fucking voice! We still haven’t stopped hearing Zoé unplugged…
// This song is oooooold but it’s the most beautiful thing you’re going to hear. Thanks for recording it for your new CD Pecados y Milagros, Lila.
5) “Dejenme Llorar (Featuring Leonel García)”— Carla Morrison
// And now the saddest song. Carla Morrison sings with a broken heart that just wants to exlpode with emotion. Let her cry, then let yourselves.
4) “Me Gustas Tanto”—Paulina Rubio
La chica dorada ha regresado. ¡Bienvenida, Pau! Te echamos de menos, güera. // The “chica dorada” has returned. Welcome back, Pau! We missed you, blondie. (Not to be confused with Lo Blondo, ¡caray!)
// Three of pop’s biggest stars in just one song! I never want it to end!
// It’s like the most important history lesson of your lives. Residente is the professor. Pay attention, you guys!
1) “Me Has Olvidado”— Hello Seahorse!

Me Has Olvidado from Hello Seahorse! on Vimeo.

// How could someone forget about Denise G.M. Lo Blondo? With that fucking voice? I don’t believe it! For me it has been Lo Blondo and Hello Searhorse!’s year. We couldn’t escape the brilliantly melancholic album Lejos No Tan Lejos. And I don’t want to.

mexican popstar anahí has teamed with bryan amadeus of (mexican rock group) moderatto and ale sergi of (argentine/ean alt-pop group) miranda for the theme song of mtv latin america’s new telenovela, “popland!”
at hearing the news i promptly died. each is exceedingly good at what they do musically but i would never imagine them in a room together, let alone a song. after the shock wore off i worried, “can a song be too good?” the answer is “no”—¡OBVIO! check out the results below:
the song brilliantly satrizies a profile-picture-posing and fame-obsessed global culture in the style of lady gaga’s “paparazzi,” sólo en español. “hacen click” means “they click,” as in cameras trying to capture our singer’s every movement. this is especially funny given the notoriety of anahí, moderatto and miranda. my favorite line: “zapatos rojos obvio de tacón/ cuando más alta estoy major es la ovación” — talk about tongue in cheek. the video, set in an amusement park is everything you might expect from a promo for a show called “popand!” noescierto? anahí, bryan and ale look as crazy as they sound.
este proyecto es lo más chido que he visto/escuchado en algún tiempo. i can’t get enough. let’s hope they work together again en el futuro.

los ex-RBD have teamed up for un nuevo sencillo and all they want is “li-li-libertad.”
mexican pop stars christian chavez and anahí formed 2/6 of RBD—one of the most popular spanish-speaking groups ever. fyi: they sold millions of albums around the world (in places as obscure as slovenia)! the band split up hace unos años and everyone went onto solo projects, some more successful than others. anahí and chris were both signed to the band’s disquera but emi dropped the latter when his album failed to sell. however, the pair are with the same management and now we have “libertad”—lo que quiere decir “freedom” para l@s angloparlantes. with lyrics like “libertad, libertad/ no voy a abandonar mis sueños/ libertad, libertad/ es tiempo de vivir sin miedo” it’s clear christian and anahí aren’t leaving the spotlight anytime soon. gracias a dios! i don’t like to make comparisons between the english- and spanish-speaking media personalities because there is no real separation anymore (and everyone deserves her or his own merits) but this is like britney spears getting together with adam lambert. they just want to be free, you guys. and yes, chavez es gay—osea súper gay!
there’s nothing better than cheesy 90s-influenced mexi-pop. qué viva la generación rebelde!
